London-based Millennium Au Pairs was founded in April 1999 by Jackie Gallacher, a journalist and mother of three, to help raise the standards of existing agencies in an unregulated UK market. There is no system in the UK for vetting or regulating Au Pair & Nanny agencies and no compulsory or even voluntary registration. As a result there are different types of agency offering different levels of service. Some mainly recruit au pairs who are already in the UK and do little or no reference checks on them at all. Other agencies recruit on a large scale over the internet, again doing few or in some cases no checks whatsover.
Millennium follows the traditional practice of recruiting Au pairs and Mothers Helps through its overseas partners, who interview and vet the applicants before sending their files to us for matching with UK families and employers.
Millennium Au Pairs is a full member of the International Au Pair Association (IAPA) and the British Au Pair Agencies Association (BAPAA). We expect our partner agencies to adhere to their high standards which include reference checks and interviewing in person or, where distances make this impossible, by telephone.
Using our specially developed database and personal expertise, we provide a careful matching service that gives each family as wide a choice of candidates as possible, while guiding them towards those that we think are most likely to do well in their family. We will also advise and support a family at any stage of a placement, although during the first month it is particularly important to coach the au pair in her new role and to give her a chance to adjust. Open and frank communication is important during this time and is actively encouraged by the Agency.
We pride ourselves on a fast and efficient service and on our courteous and helpful staff. Our telephone answering hours are Monday to Friday from 9.15 am to 5.15 pm. Outside these hours we will respond to email as quickly as possible and will be working to ensure all our clients receive details of aupairs as quickly as possible. Details of our Au pair candidates are normally either posted or emailed to clients within 24-48 hours of an enquiry, though this can take a little longer during extremely busy periods.
How to use this site:
If you are registering for the first time: Simply register online by completing & submitting our Register for an Au Pair form. Then check your email every 24-48 hours for details of those Au Pairs that will have been selected & emailed to you as potential matches for your family. You will also be emailed a password to enable you to login and view new applicant profiles whenever you wish. Simply enter your Registered email address followed by your password and make your own selection. Draw up a shortlist of those Au Pairs who interest you and who you would like us to arrange a phone call with and let us know their names and web numbers. Call us at any time to discuss particular candidates and for advice in deciding who is most suitable for your family.
If none of the candidates are of interest, simply let us know by phone or email that you would like to continue to receive details of new candidates.
If you have registered before or are a repeat customer: please call or email us to reactivate & update your family details on 0208 241 9752 or click on Send us an email on the left side of this page, giving us details of when you will need a new aupair along with your Full Name & contact telephone number.
As soon as you are able to compile a shortlist, we will normally post you further details on your preferred applicants and our complete terms and conditions and information pack. We will then proceed to arrange phone calls with your favourite candidates & to help you exchange as much information with them as you need, in order to reach a decision & make a definite offer. Once an offer has been made & accepted we will guide you through the remainder of the simple paperwork that will enable your new Au Pair to book & pay for his or her travel to the UK.
Extreme circumstances excepted, when a placement goes wrong after a reasonable trial period of 4 weeks, we ask for two weeks notice to be given by both parties while we organise a new Au Pair for the family and a new host family for the Au Pair should she require one. For further details of the trial period and replacements please view the section on placement fees.
We work hard to ensure that we can offer a wide choice of Au Pairs throughout the year, including free and discounted replacements to those of our clients who qualify for them.
Our Au Pairs and Mothers Helps are also given confidential advice and support should they need it and also receive a Welcome Pack including contact details for other au pairs on arrival in the UK.
